Because

One of my favorite oldies is the song Because, by the Dave Clark Five.  But this post is not about that song or band (although I added the song to today’s post).

I was getting ready to watch the Blue Jays game today and had just got home from picking Holly up from the groomers.  Gail called me at 10:30 this morning to remind me that I had an appointment for 10:00 am.

I immediately looked at my watch and shuddered with embarrassment.

Oh, Gail, I am so terribly sorry for forgetting about Holly’s appointment.

That’s okay, Danny.  I figured there must have been something wrong or that you forgot.  Just bring Holly now and it will not be a problem.

I know that you have heard this a million times from me before – but Holly hates going out.  Period.

She hates the car, going for walks, people, dogs, cats, squirrels, and even a small bird, which she actually killed last year – to my utter disbelief and devastation!

But Holly likes going to Head to Tail Grooming in Langley.

Gail’s place was two blocks away from where I lived in Langley, and I would walk Holly there most times.  And she doesn’t get really excited by wagging her tail or other forms of happiness, but she does really like Gail.

And Gail always does an excellent job on Holly’s grooming.

So, even though I now live in White Rock – I don’t mind driving to Gail’s place.  She is such a nice friend!

But back to the Blue Jays’ game.

I had bought a can of Hires Root Beer and Vodka (yes, it is already mixed!) to drink while watching the game.

Last night, the Jays got slaughtered by the Boston Red Sox.

They were humiliated, and I was hoping they would be seeking revenge during today’s game.

I was sitting in my new recliner, about to watch the game on my new, big-screen television, when the announcer at the pregame show said that the game was being postponed until August 7th.

And I had already opened the root beer/vodka can.

As I continued to watch the pregame show, I noticed that one of the men being interviewed was wearing his watch on the right arm and not the left arm.

He must be left-handed, I thought – because everybody who is right-handed wears their watch on the left arm.

But that made me wonder.

Why am I wearing my watch on my left wrist when I am right-handed?

I write with my right hand, gesture using my right hand, hold my utensils in the right hand, shake hands using the right hand, point directions, and throw.

So, why don’t we wear our watch on the right hand?

And why are female shirts buttoned on the wrong side?  Did the genius who decided this think that men would confuse shirts with flowers and lace?

Why don’t you just Google to find out, Danny?  Why are you writing about such simple stuff?

Well, Spanky, I am in a bad mood because of the rain in Buffalo.

Now, I am forced to watch the Yankees play instead.  At least I’ll have an excuse to open another can of root beer.

And my Holly looks gorgeous, and she smells good, so the day was not a complete loss!

Dedicated to gal pal Gail at Head to Tail Grooming

I hope my stories are a gift to your head and heart.

Hugs,

Danny

The Older I Get – lyrics

The older I get
The more I think
You only get a minute, better live while you’re in it
‘Cause it’s gone in a blink

And the older I get
The truer it is
It’s the people you love, not the money and stuff
That makes you rich

And if they found a fountain of youth
I wouldn’t drink a drop and that’s the truth
Funny how it feels I’m just getting to my best years yet

The older I get
The fewer friends I have
But you don’t need a lot when the ones that you got
Have always got your back

And the older I get
The better I am
At knowing when to give
And when to just not give a damn

And if they found a fountain of youth
I wouldn’t drink a drop and that’s the truth
Funny how it feels I’m just getting to my best years yet
The older I get

And I don’t mind all the lines
From all the times I’ve laughed and cried
Souvenirs and little signs of the life I’ve lived

The older I get
The longer I pray
I don’t know why, I guess that I
Got more to say
And the older I get
The more thankful I feel
For the life I’ve had, and all the life I’m living still

Because – lyrics

It’s right that I should care about you
And try to make you happy when you’re blue
It’s right, it’s right to feel the way I do
Because, because I love you

It’s wrong to say I don’t think of you
‘Cause when you say these things
You know it makes me blue

Give me one kiss and I’ll be happy
Just, just to be with you
Give me, give me, a chance to be near you
Because, because I love you

Give me one kiss and I’ll be happy
Just, just to be with you
Give me, give me, a chance to be near you
Because, because I love you
Because, because I love you

Because – lyrics

Aah
Because the world is round
It turns me on
Because the world is round

Aah
Because the wind is high
It blows my mind
Because the wind is high

Aah
Love is old, love is new
Love is all, love is you
Because the sky is blue
It makes me cry
Because the sky is blue
Aah
